Wolves defeated Brentford 4-1 in a thrilling Premier League match at the Gtech Community Stadium thanks to a masterclass performance. Fans were on the edge of their seats until the very last whistle as the game unfolded with dramatic moments and surprising turns.

Brentford:

Having lost five of their past six Premier League games (with one victory), including each of their last three straight, Brentford is hoping to bring their supporters some much-needed holiday cheer this evening. The Bees have dropped to 14th place in the standings due to injuries to players like Rico Henry and Bryan Mbeumo, as well as the suspension of star striker Ivan Toney for violating the Football Association's betting regulations. However, a victory here would move them above Fulham and Wolves, and possibly Chelsea, depending on the outcome of the Blues' match against Crystal Palace on Wednesday. Because Manchester City was last in action ten days ago due to their victorious FIFA Club World Cup campaign, Thomas Frank and his team have had plenty of time to prepare.

Wolves:

Wolves, on the other hand, did not play in a game until Christmas Eve, yet Gary O'Neil's club gave their supporters the best gift conceivable by defeating Chelsea 2-1. Mario Lemina and Matt Doherty scored well, continuing their propensity of defeating the major teams at Molineux, although they have been underwhelming on the road for a while. In fact, Wolves has lost 10 of the previous 13 away games in the Premier League and won only five of the previous 35 (seven draws and 23 losses). However, a rare road victory here in west London would move them within four points of the top eight.

Starting XI:

First Half Fireworks: Lemina and Hwang Shine

The first few minutes of the match were electrifying, with Brentford and Wolves slugging it out for supremacy. Mario Lemina took charge in the thirteenth minute, scoring off a superb Sarabia corner. With his accuracy, the midfielder demonstrated Wolves' intentions and created anticipation for more action.

Hwang Hee-chan of Wolves extended their lead in a matter of seconds. Collins of Brentford made a disastrous back throw that gave Hwang an opening he couldn't turn down. The away fans celebrated as the South Korean player smoothly circled the custodian and slotted the ball into the net.

But Brentford showed tenacity and answered right away in the sixteenth minute. Wissa's goal past Sa was made possible by Maupay's deft touch, reducing Wolves' lead to 2-1. Both teams continued their wild start, creating opportunities and captivating the fans.

Hwang took advantage of defensive mistakes to secure his brace in the 28th minute. Hwang was played onside by Collins' ill-advised clearing and Pinnock's lack of initiative. With poise, the South Korean restored Wolves' two-goal lead by deftly flicking the ball over Pinnock and scoring with ease.

Second Half: Brentford's Efforts, Wolves Seal the Deal

The second half saw Brentford make an effort to rally, posing a threat to Wolves' defence through Lewis-Potter and Wissa. Wolves held strong, preventing Brentford from making progress.

With a fourth goal in the 79th minute, Wolves completed the victory. Collins, who was having a rough day, gave possession to Cunha, who kindly set up Bellegarde in her place. With ease, the Frenchman sent the ball past Flekken to increase Wolves' advantage to 4-1.

Brentford attempted to surge forward in the closing minutes, but Wolves' defence held strong. Wolves' decisive 4-1 victory was confirmed by the referee's whistle, giving them back-to-back wins and moving them up to 11th position with 25 points.

With the setback, Brentford's winless run now stands at four games. They are apprehensively positioned in 14th place, four points above the relegation zone. Both teams now concentrate on their next games, as Brentford plays Crystal Palace and Wolves hosts Everton.
