First Half Set Pieces: Onana and Keane Strike

A heated struggle was set in motion by the opening whistle, and Everton took the lead in the nineteenth minute. Amadou Onana powered past Burnley's defense to head home a corner that the returning McNeil had supplied. The home crowd fell silent in shock as the visitors took early advantage.

After a further set piece, Everton doubled their lead six minutes later. Former Burnley player Michael Keane shown composure in front of goal. Pickford's long kick was flicked on by Tarkowski, and Keane's first attempt at volleying goal was stopped by Burnley's goalie, but he scored with ease from close range after the rebound.

Even though Burnley had the better of the possession, Everton's defense held strong. One memorable moment occurred in the 25th minute when Burnley had a clear chance to score, but Ben Godfrey made a vital sliding intervention to stop them.

With a dominating 2-0 lead at the interval, Everton demonstrated their defensive tenacity and potency from set pieces.

Burnley began the second half determined to make a comeback. Everton, though, remained composed defensively. A memorable moment occurred in the 63rd minute when Keane struck the post after a goalmouth scramble inside Burnley's area, but the home team just managed to hold on.

With a goal in mind to penetrate Everton's defense, Burnley made a big effort in the 64th minute. Amdouni's powerful strike forced Jordan Pickford to make an incredible save, preserving Everton's clean sheet.

Burnley came agonizingly close to cutting the deficit in the 79th minute. Sander Berge's initial effort hit the crossbar, but Jacob Bruun Larsen was flagged offside, hence the goal was not valid.
