Welcome to an exciting match review of Crystal Palace vs. Tottenham, a thrilling Premier League match played at Selhurst Park. This exciting game included a thrilling custodian display, a few surprises, an exciting manager's milestone and a nail-biting end.

Hodgson's Landmark:

Leading Crystal Palace in their pursuit of atonement was Roy Hodgson, who oversaw his 500th English club game. With just one victory in their past six games across all competitions, the team's recent performance has been less than stellar. The team was struggling to score goals; in their last six games, they had only two goals.

Tottenham's Triumph at the Top:

Conversely, Tottenham was having a great time, sitting atop the Premier League standings, two points ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal. They were still undefeated after seven victories and two draws. The team tried to increase their lead with another win even though the two games they lost were away games.

Starting Lineups:

Crystal Palace (4-3-3):

  • Goalkeeper: Sam Johnstone

  • Defenders: Joel Ward, Joachim Andersen, Marc Guehi, Tyrick Mitchell

  • Midfielders: Jefferson Lerma, Cheick Doucoure, Will Hughes

  • Forwards: Jordan Ayew, Odsonne Edouard, Jeffrey Schlupp

Substitutes: Jairo Riedewald, Matheus Franca, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Remi Matthews, Chris Richards, Naouirou Ahamada, Nathaniel Clyne, Rob Holding, Jesuran Rak-Sakyi

Tottenham (4-2-3-1):

  • Goalkeeper: Guglielmo Vicario

  • Defenders: Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Ben Davies

  • Midfielders: Yves Bissouma, Pape Sarr

  • Attacking Midfielders: Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Richarlison

  • Forward: Son Heung-Min

Substitutes: Giovani Lo Celso, Rodrigo Bentancur, Oliver Skipp, Emerson Royal, Brennan Johnson, Bryan Gil, Fraser Forster, Eric Dier, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

First Half - Goalless Stalemate:

When the contest began, Son Heung-Min got things started for the Spurs. Palace made it clear what they wanted in the sixth minute, and Guglielmo Vicario had to make a big stop. The Tottenham custodian handled Ayew's near-post strike expertly.

Vicario's skill in goalkeeping was on display once more in the seventh minute when he used a strong hand to block Schlupp's shot and keep the score at zero.

Following a challenge by Edouard in the 33rd minute, Micky van de Ven required medical attention. After a short pause, the defender was once again upright.

Half-Time - Crystal Palace 0-0 Tottenham:

There was no score at the end of the first half. Spurs had the majority of the possession, but they were not really dangerous. Maddison and Richarlison missed some easy shots that did not cause Palace any problems. However, Hodgson's team shown their ability to counterattack, putting Vicario in crucial save situations. There was still no goal.

Second Half - Tottenham's Breakthrough:

As the second half got underway, Palace tried to continue being resilient. Tottenham did, however, break the tie in the 53rd minute. Spurs took a 1-0 lead when Maddison's initially off-target effort deflected off Ward and resulted in an own goal.

Crystal Palace Pulls One Back:

Even though they were behind, Crystal Palace's resolve held firm. With a brilliant finish in the ninety-first minute and four seconds, Jordan Ayew cut the lead to 2-1. Ayew's chested finish won the goal after it was originally reviewed for handball.

Spurs broke out of their drab first half performance in the 66th minute with another goal. Son made no mistakes in setting up Maddison and Johnson for a fantastic passing sequence that doubled the advantage to 2-0.

Mitchell's need for treatment for a knee injury he suffered while attempting to block Son's shot caused a brief interruption in the action.

It took two minutes for VAR to thoroughly examine Ayew's finish and determine that the goal was legitimate.

Palace had a chance to tie the score in the last seconds, but Mateta's header went over the crossbar.

Full-Time: Crystal Palace 1-2 Tottenham

Spurs secured a vital win that extended their winning streak and cemented their place atop the standings. Even though Spurs had the better of the game for most of it, Palace showed tenacity and were deadly when attacking. Even with a late goal from Ayew, Tottenham won.

With the victory, Tottenham's lead at the top of the table was increased to five points, and they will now concentrate on facing Chelsea. Crystal Palace, however, continued their losing streak while proving they could still compete. They have a match coming up against Burnley.
